Today we are going to talk about the heat treatment for Precision Machining Parts. What are the normalizing & Spheroidization process? The normalizing process involves heating the steel to 50 ° F to 100 ° F (10 ° C to 40 ° C) above the upper critical zone and then cooling it to room temperature in still air. Annealing is mainly used for low carbon steel, medium carbon steel and alloy steel to make the grain structure more uniform, release internal stress or obtain the required physical properties. Most commercial steel is annealed after rolling or casting. Spheroidization is the process of forming cementite into a similar spherical distribution structure. This structure can be obtained by heating steel slowly to just below the critical temperature and holding it for a long time. The obtained spherical structure improves the machinability of the steel. This process is particularly useful for eutectoid steel which must be machined. We will discuss more in the near future.
